Yet another insane proposed law to try and stop unauthorized file swapping. While I feel the practice is wrong, this is really going overboard. I mean come on!!! If people start getting serious jail time for swapping music it will be the most ridiculous waste of jail space ever!!!
The bottom line is this folks. Nevermind what happens in November elections in regards to this issue! There are pawns on all sides ready to do the RIAA's bidding. And lawmakers on both major sides have shown they are always more than willing. If you've never considered joining a group like the The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) before you might want to consider it now! The political system is simply a cycle of payoffs and the only way your voice will be heard is to be part of a group pulling on lawmakers while showing some dollars! The Political Action Committees (PACs) are running things! These days in addition to considering who to vote for you also have to consider if there are any PACs that support your views and support them! Because PACs have influence beyond even legislators you can vote for/against. (You can vote for 2 Senators, but PACs have pull with many more!) I don't like that things are the way they are, but that is the game these days. I really think it stinks, but you have to do what will get your voice heard or see yourself wishing you did more later.
There has to be a grass roots level effort to bring about change, but you also have to press the lawmakers in a way they understand.
