It is expected that music stations will follow in the coming months if all goes well.
According to the Wall Street Journal Infinity's chief executive Joel Hollander expects Internet broadcasting to "explode" and thinks any music licensing issues can be overcome.
Well the ball moves slow, but it does move .
Now please make more in car Internet radio systems. Using wireless Internet connections to market Internet radio would be a great move! Providers like Sprint and others already have the networks available. They could charge a small monthly fee for access.

I am looking forward to March 14th. It has been great to hear all news station WCBS-AM online since December. It is a great alternative from the vulgar FM music and one-sided talk found on liberal and conservative talk stations. Now, with the addition of these other news stations, maybe I can receive a little more news instead of having to wait for the five minute worth of headlines on the top of the hour. I definitely prefer to listen to Los Angeles' news station KNX-AM over the arrogant talk programming found online from Clear Channel's Los Angeles station KFI-AM.

I agree, these big city all-news stations are far more listenable than the talk on most AM stations these days.

Darnell, Infinity does have some music stations that stream, like the Wave in L.A. and WPGC in DC, but you have to be an AOL subscriber to get the hookup.

Well I'll never be getting AOL and neither will most of America . (I wish Richard Parsons well, but so long as he's with AOL he won't see any of my money .)
Infinity knows they have got to open it up to the world to get some real numbers. That's what they are finally coming around to doing .

Right now the only Infinity music station that is streaming and is not AOL subscriber worthy is their AAA formatted WXRT in Chicago.

I can't wait until stations like V-103 Atlanta, 102 Jamz Orlando, Power 98 and V-101.9 both in Charlotte, and B106.3 West Palm Beach starts to stream over the Internet. And will be grateful the day that WPGC 95.5 Washington DC stops using AOL to stream .

This kind of news is not so great to me. Bear in mind that once the "Big Guys" gain a foothold on the internet they'll bring all of the bad habits that everyone complains about (on this message board no less) with them. With that long green backing them it won't take long before existing webcasters (such as myself) will be forced off of the net and all but the very large webcasters (Virgin, et al.) and the broadcasters will remain standing. After all, there are only so many list- eners available. Once this happens, what alterna- tives will there be then? As a webcaster for over 4 years I'm happy to see the growth and the appli- cable technology being made available for internet radio (and television) but I'm leary of the what the cost will be to us existing webcasters.

I'd like to think so Darnell but I don't have the big money behind me like these guys do. At first it was thought that low-power FM would provide an alternative to the half-dozen formats that Clear Channel and the other big players provide. Well we all know how the NAB pretty much crushed that. The internet is the final alternative, at least for now.The last thing that's needed is for broadcast- ers to begin inundating the net with the same hol- low, "cookie-cutter" programming that they serve up on AM and FM now. We already know that all that corporate broadcasters care about (with a few ex- ceptions such as Bonneville and a handful of ot- hers) is the bottom line. Change is inevitable but I hope it is for the positive.

So long as there is no further government regulation of the Internet issues like those those in the AM/FM world will not exist.
In this space I've battled with and beaten some pretty big names with big money behind them.
If the issue is quality (and you've got the quality) the listeners will seek out something new.
Bottom line is that they will have a bigger advertising budget than you and nothing more. I've found online the best vistors come via word of mouth and not heavy advertising.
Keep your quality of programming up and you'll maintain your current base with no problem. That will result in more for you over time as word spreads. The big companies getting folks interested in listening to streams for the first time will ultimately help you as they seek new sounds.
Read a bit about Search Engine Optimization. Should help people find you online .

I want to add that I have been listening to KXGQ alot lately. It sure sounds great! It is the closest thing I have found musically to the old Solid Gold Soul satellite format that I have such fond memories of. I also like the fact there is a Real Player stream. For some reason, even with a high speed connection, my laptop plays Real Player streams with virtually no buffering compared to WMP streams. Some of the only other urban formatted stations I know that stream in RA besides KXGQ are KCOH Houston and KBGG Waterloo, IA, but only KXGQ is in stereo.

I would add that one of my old favorites - WNOV in Milwaukee streams in RA but the sound is usually pretty distorted.
